OXNARD, Calif. — College of the Canyons freshman Nobuhiko Wakaari finished at even par to win medalist honors, while Tom Sims and Anguerrand Voisin tied for second to give the Cougars their first tourney win of the season at River Ridge Golf Course.

Canyons (371) finished 11 strokes up on second place Santa Barbara City College (382). Ventura (399) narrowly took third over Glendale (402) in the four spot.

COC took second in the season opener at Bakersfield Country Club then settled for third at Alisal Ranch a week later before notching its first victory of the season.

Among the highlights for Canyons was the hole-in-one recorded by Voison on the par-three 17th hole. That helped the freshman finish the day one-over at 73.

According to COC head coach Gary Peterson, Voison's shot on the 17th was the first hole-in-one for a Cougar golfer in roughly 28 years. The last player to do so was former COC golfer Shane O'Brien in 1991 at the par-three 12th hole at Montecito Country Club.

Sims also finished his day at 73 to tie with Voisin for second in the tournament's individual standings. Freshman Jules Lavigne tied for fifth with his round of 75. Jack Greene was the last to score for Canyons with a final mark of 78. Matthew Mansholt at 81 had his round dropped.
