Dudley pitched a gem, holding the Pirates lineup scoreless across eight innings of work by scattering five hits with no walks, while fanning seven batters. He is now 2-0 on the season.
Canyons received home runs from shortstop Jose Haros and right fielder Roy Verdejo which helped the Cougars build a 5-0 lead through seven innings.
Verdejo enjoyed a successful week at the plate for the Cougars, batting a combined .583 (7-for-12) with three home runs, nine RBIs and four runs scored.
But the Pirates refused to go down without a fight, pounding out four runs in the top of the ninth before Haros was able to close it out for the save.
Canyons had lost 4-3 at OCC the previous afternoon.
The Cougars will next host Cosumnes River for a two-game set Feb. 26-27.
