Cougars Handed 101-76 Road Loss at Citrus

GLENDORA — Freshman Dillon Barrientos scored a season-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough as College of the Canyons lost 101-76 on the road at Citrus College on Wednesday.

COC trailed Citrus from the opening possession in a game where the Cougars committed 20 turnovers and attempted just 14 foul shots.  

Citrus built a 15-point lead in the opening half and maintained that pace throughout the contest.  

Barrientos provided a bright spot for COC with his 9-of-14 shooting night, and trio of three-pointers. His three assists also led the Cougars. 

Andrew Henderson finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Quincy Arms scored eight points, as did Jimmy Galgano with eight points and six rebounds in a reserve role.

Caden Arnold and Corwin Smith tied for the team lead with eight rebounds, with each scoring six points.

Citrus (11-5, 2-1), meanwhile, connected on 13 three-pointers and got to the foul line at a much more efficient rate ending the night 18-of-26 to aid their effort. The Owls were just better than 37 percent from downtown, translating into four players finishing in double figures.

Leonard Turner led the way with 20 points and six rebounds. Cedric Reed was next with 18 points followed by Francis Dogani with 16. Reed and Dogani were both effective from long range with each connecting on four three-pointers. 

The Owls have now won four of their last five, having topped 100-points in three of those games. Citrus is the first team to score 100 points vs. the Cougars this season.

Canyons (9-6, 1-2) will enter the weekend fifth in the Western State Conference (WSC), South Division standings, situated amongst a cluster of teams trailing first place West L.A. College (13-3, 4-0).

COC returns home to host West L.A. at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Cougar Cage.

The Cougars then close out the month on a four-game conference road trip with trips to Santa Monica, Bakersfield, Antelope Valley and L.A. Valley College.
