2017 College of the Canyons Men's Golf News
Over the last five seasons Canyons has captured three state titles (2013, 2015, 2017) while finishing as runner up on two occasions (2014, 2016).
The Cougars carded a five-man team score of 765 (389/373) over 36 holes to finish behind second place Cypress College at 758 (380/378) and event champion Riverside City College at 750 (380/370).
The 2017 WSC Championship is the program’s 23rd conference title. Since the 2000 season Canyons has won the conference championship in all but two year.
COC’s five-man score of 381 topped the tally of 383 by Ventura College. The Cougars have now finished first in all but two conference events this season.
Jaeyeol Kim’s season-best individual score of 69 gave the sophomore medalist honors for the third straight week.
COC golfers held down four of the top five individual spots as well, with Ricky Hoefert and Jaeyeol Kim both carding rounds of 74 to lead the field and share medalist honors.
The Cougars carded a five-man score of 373 while sophomore Jaeyeol Kim earned medalist honors with an evan par round of 72.
The Cougars finished ahead of host Santa Barbara City College (399) and third place Ventura (401) on a cold and windy day on the links.
The five-man score of 400 turned in by Canyons was good for ninth in the field of 19, and ranked fourth among the eight Western State Conference schools.
COC sophomore Ben Campbell turned in a one under score of 71 to lead the Cougars.
COC freshman Daniel Taplin and Michael Lindgren both turned scores of 74 to tie with SBCC golfer Theo Andre-Fouet for tournament medalist honors.
The Cougars turned in a five-man score of 374 at Stockdale Country Club to win the event.
The Cougars finished second at the best ball tournament which included 16 teams from 15 schools throughout the region.
