Canyons Finishes Second at 3C2A SoCal Championships, Struyf Wins Individual Regional Title

VENTURA — College of the Canyons finished runner-up in the team standings at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Championships at Olivas Links Golf Course on Monday — with sophomore Jacques Struyf winning the individual regional title — earning the Cougars an opportunity to compete for a third consecutive state title.
Canyons (588-294/294) finished the 36-hole event one shot off the pace from College of the Desert (587-290/297) which claimed the regional title.
Ventura College (597-299/298) was third and Orange Coast College (603-304/299) was fourth. Victor Valley College (605-308/297) finished fifth in the 10-team field to claim the final qualifying spot at next week's 3C2A State Championship tournament.
Struyf finished as the low man in the field of more than 65 competitors representing 12 schools from across the region. He started the day with an even-par round of 72 before carding a 71 across the final 18 holes.
That score tied Freddie Carcamo (143-74/69) of Ventura College with Struyf eventually being named champion following a one-hole playoff. Struyf is the program's first Southern California Regional Champion since the 2022 season when Hugo Amsallem won the regional title.
Canyons featured three of its scoring players in the top-10 of the individual standings.
COC freshman Kai Willen (147-74/73) finished in a three-way tie for sixth place after finishing one-over-par in the afternoon round.
Willen is joined by Struyf in earning 2026 All-SoCal Team accolades.
Anthony Nilson, the Western State Conference (WSC) individual champion and Player of the Year, finished at 148 with two identical rounds of 74. That placed the sophomore in a tie with two others in ninth place.
Ed Beehag (151-74/77) also factored into the team scoring while finishing tied for 16th in the individual standings. The sophomore finished two-over-par to begin the day in the morning round but had his second-round score of 77 scratched from the team tally.
Roy Chan (153-77/76) had his opening round score dropped but shot a 76 in the afternoon which was counted toward the COC team score.
Arnaud Bouhaniche (160-78/82) had both of his results dropped from the Cougars' team scores.
Canyons, winners of both the 2024 and 2025 3C2A State Championships, will be gunning for the program's third consecutive and 13th total state title when action gets underway during the 2026 3C2A State Championship Tournament May 10-11, at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta.
The nine-team tourney will feature the five qualifying schools from Southern California joining Reedley College, Napa Valley College, Sierra College and San Joaquin Delta College from the NorCal region. Reedley College enters the event as the 3C2A Northern California Champion.
