SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A last-minute goal by College of the Canyons midfielder Andy Ruiz was the game winner in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday night.
The win earned COC its first conference victory of the season while remaining undefeated overall in conference play.
COC's Jesus Pescador netted his fourth goal of the season in the 27th minute on a 24-yard free kick strike. COC led the game going into halftime, 1-0.
In the second half, Santa Barbara's Omar Montalvo tallied the equalizing goal in the 62nd minute.
Just before the final whistle, Canyons midfielder Andy Ruiz scored the game-winner ensuring the Cougars' third win of the season.
The win boosts COC's record to 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-2 in conference play.
College of the Canyons will next visit Moorpark College at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
