Canyons and AVC Play to 4-4 Draw

LANCASTER — College of the Canyons and Antelope Valley College played to an exciting 4-4 draw on Tuesday, with the two sides combining to score all eight goals in the second half.

Canyons (3-9-2, 1-1-1) built a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Alec Fryer in the 56th minute and Tom Larcier in the 57th minute to build some positive momentum for the Cougars. Both goals were unassisted.

In the 61st minute it was Jayden White scoring for Antelope Valley (4-3-5, 1-0-1) and bringing the score to 2-1.

That frenzied pace continued with a goal from COC freshman Julian De La O, this time from an assist by Larcier, that came in the 64th minute and extended the Cougars' lead at 3-1

Antelope Valley then answered with back-to-back scoring runs in the 67th minute with an unassisted goal from Guilherme Valenca, with the equalizer coming in the 84th minute off the foot of Jaret Rojas, byway of Casey Ramirez.

In the 90th minute Canyons moved ahead once more at 4-3 when Jason Nakoud beat the AVC goalkeeper for what appeared to be a potential game winner.

Less than a minute later the Marauders responded with the game's final score, this time from Makuochukwu Ene near the end of regulation to tie the game at 4-4, which is where things stood through the final whistle.

Matthew Swanson recorded four saves for the Cougars and took the draw. The two teams each recorded 15 shots. Neither side earned a corner kick.

The four goals scored by Canyons represented a season high. COC is now 2-1-1 in its last four games, having scored 11 goals during that span.

The Cougars will next hit the road to face Taft College in a non-conference match at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
