College of the Canyons scored a go-ahead goal early in the second half to get past Glendale College and earn its first conference victory of the season.
Canyons (3-6-3, 1-1) evened its record vs. Western State Conference (WSC), South Division opponents after falling 1-0 at Antelope Valley College in last Friday's conference opener.
Glendale (3-4-5, 0-2) moved ahead at 1-0 with its only score coming in the 12th minute off a touch from Kevin Anjunyan.
The Cougars eventually responded with Ike D'Silva scoring a beauty of a goal in the 28th minute, to get his side even with the Vaqueros at 1-1.
That's where things stayed as the halftime whistle blew to start the break.
COC found quick success in the second half as Vince Diaz wasted little time getting the Cougars on the board at 2-1, with his score coming in the opening moments of the 47th minute.
The goal was Diaz' second the year and came off an assist from Juandiego Rodriguez, his first point of the season.
Down the stretch, it was the Cougars leaning on their backline along with goalkeeper David Zendejas (1-4), who notched three saves across his 90 minutes between the pipes to earn the win.
COC was awarded three corner kicks and totaled 13 shots in the match.
Canyons remains home to host Bakersfield College (7-3-3, 1-0) at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, with that game being livestreamed to fans free of charge via the award-winning Cougars Sports Network.
