College of the Canyons sophomore shortstop Brooke Petretti will next be roaming the infield for University of La Verne after committing to the Leopards softball program earlier this week.
University of La Verne is an NCAA Division III program competing in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Leopards have earned playoff berths in eight of the last 11 seasons.
Petretti, a graduate of nearby West Ranch High School, was a two-year all-conference selection for the Cougars. She finished the 2025 season batting .311 and was second on the team with 30 RBIs.
Her 35 runs scored ranked third on the team. Petretti also stole 18 bases and recorded nine doubles, five triples and a pair of home runs to finish second on the squad with a .496 slugging percentage.
Those numbers helped Canyons clinch a 12th straight postseason berth.
At season's end she was recognized with All-Western State Conference (WSC), South Division Second-Team honors.
Petretti, who started every game at shortstop for the Cougars, was also an all-conference Honorable Mention selection as a freshman in 2024. That season she registered a .321 batting average with a team-best 41 runs scored, which also ranked fifth in the WSC. Those numbers came alongside 26 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.
In the classroom, Petretti was one of six Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Award Winners recognized during the department's annual end of the year celebratory dinner. The award honors two-year student-athletes that demonstrate tremendous leadership qualities while maintaining a high GPA.
Petretti is the first COC softball student-athlete to move on to play with a four-year program since the 2019 season.
