HUNTINGTON BEACH — Despite another strong offensive performance College of the Canyons was handed an 12-11 non-conference road loss at Golden West College on Monday.
Canyons (10-5) has now lost back-to-back games after dropping the second game of its home doubleheader vs. Riverside City College over the weekend.
The Cougars held an 8-0 advantage heading into the fourth inning before Golden West (9-3) finally got on the board. The Rustlers then posted a six-run fifth inning to tie the game at 8-8 heading into the final two frames.
Both sides pushed across three runs in the sixth before Golden West found the edge with a walk-off RBI single in the seventh.
That sequence pinned a loss on COC starter Anais Perez (5-3) who pitched the entire way.
The Cougars' offense was led by the top of its order. Leadoff hitter Jocelyn Jimenez finished 4-for-4 with a walk, stealing two bases and scoring three runs.
Belinda Lujano was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double from the two spot, also scoring three runs and driving in two more. Up next, Jeniece Jimenez was for 2-for-5 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
