Canyons Track & Field Sweeps WSC Inland Meet
COC men's and women's teams both finish first among five-team field.
The College of the Canyons track and field program combined to sweep last Friday's WSC Inland Meet hosted by Antelope Valley College, with both the men's and women's teams taking first place among the field of five schools.
The women's team finished with 192 event points — and 10 individual first place finishes — to cruise over second place Bakersfield College (153) and third place AVC (55).
Skylin Harbin took first in the 100m hurdles at a time of 14.46 seconds. Later in the day, Jada Selexman finished first with a time of 1:07.09 in the 400m hurdles. Not to be outdone, Tisian Nealy claimed her first place finish in the 400m with a time of 58.65 seconds.
In the distance events, Alexandra Whitman took first in the 800m (2:23.71) and Jessica Ruiz followed that up by winning the 1500m event (4:47.50). Ruiz also placed first in the 3000m (10:49.90).
High jumper Kaitlyn Matthews was first in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m and Marissa Kneisel took the long jump event at 5.44m.
Thrower Dana Bowers took first in the shot put (10.79m), javelin throw (33.33m) and discus (33.16m).
On the men's side, Canyons (190) was able to beat second place Glendale (134) and third place Bakersfield College (98).
Individual first place finishers included Joel Estrada in the 800m (1:56.74) and Ethan Walker in the 3000m (8:53.70).
The men's 4 x 400m relay team of Jordan Neely, Zachary Larson, Jaeton Williams and Robert Brennan also took first place with a time of 3:20.56.
Canyons will next compete at the Vaquero Classic hosted by Glendale College on Saturday.
