Cougars Compete at 3C2A SoCal Regional Prelims

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons competed at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Prelims on Saturday at Bakersfield College, with several Cougars student-athletes moving on to compete at this weekend's regional finals heats.
The men's team was led by sophomore Antonio Moore who will move on to compete in both the 110h and 400h events. Moore took fourth in the 110h (14.51) and was runner-up in the 400h (53.94).
COC sophomore Josh Smith finished sixth in the 400m (48.98) with Esaias Ellis taking fourth in the triple jump (14.61m).
Josue Lopez also advances in the men's 5,000m.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Thurlee Bowers, Smith, Moore and Elijah Reid took seventh at a pace of 41.96 to also advance.
Sophomore Hazel Rhodes led the women's contingent with wins in the 200m (24.13) and 400m (54.62).
Monique Fulling also moves on in a pair of individual events with the sophomore taking fourth in the 100h (14.76) before winning the 400h (1:05.49).
Victoria Jamison will run in the 5,000m event with Ruby Salazar moving on in the 3K Steeplechase.
Fulling, Syrai Piper, Amara Shields and Rhodes also qualified to compete in the 4x400 relay after taking fourth at a time of 3:58.79. That same grouping also advances in the 4x100 relay after finishing eighth with a time of 49.53.
The 3C2A Southern California Regional Championships take place Saturday, May 9, at Bakersfield College.
Qualifiers will then move on to compete at the 3C2A State Championship meet May 15-16, at Mt. San Antonio College.
