Canyons Extends Conference Win Streak

BAKERSFIELD — College of the Canyons remains undefeated in conference play after taking first at the Western State Conference (WSC) tourney hosted by Bakersfield College at Sundale Country Club on Monday.
Canyons saw all four scoring players rank in the top-11 of the individual standings led by medalist Sahya Kitabatake, who earned top honors for the seventh straight conference tourney.
Kitabatake finished with an even par round of 73 to finish three shots ahead of the duo that tied for second place.
COC freshman Alex Downing placed seventh overall at 89.
Freshmen Sofia Allard and Baily Fara Lieberman tied for 11th overall with rounds of 92. Valerie Sherman finished at 114 but had her score scratched from the final team score.
The Cougars' four-player score of 346 topped the field ahead of runner-up Moorpark College (356) and third-place Santa Barbara City College (363).
Bakersfield (365) was fourth ahead of Allan Hancock College (385), Citrus College (473) and Antelope Valley College (481) to round out the seven-team field.
Canyons is now 47-5 on the year and 42-0 in conference play.
The Cougars finished sixth at the two-day Central Coast Classic/3C2A State Preview event played Oct. 12-13, at Alisal River Ranch Course in Solvang. COC has placed first at every other event this season.
Canyons will conclude its regular season schedule at the two-day WSC Championships being played Oct. 26-27. The opening round will be held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande. The action concludes at Santa Maria Country Club the following day.
