College of the Canyons freshman Emma Chodur has been named the Western State Conference (WSC) Player of the Year, the first in program history, to headline the Cougars' four all-conference awards.
Chodur completed the regular season and subsequent WSC singles tourney undefeated against community college competition with a perfect 19-0 record.
That included a 4-0 run through the conference tourney which culminated in her winning the WSC singles championship. In the tourney's championship match, Chodur was able to overcome an opening-set loss to become the first singles conference champion in COC women's tennis program history.
Along with the Player of the Year award, Chodur was named All-WSC First-Team as the conference's top No. 1 singles player.
She played in 13 of 14 conference matches and was the clear leader for a Canyons team that finished third in the WSC team standings.
As part of her tremendous run of success, Chodur also shares All-WSC First-Team Doubles honors with partner Baylee Renfro.
Chodur/Renfro joined forces to win the WSC Doubles Championship in another program first.
That title came after the dynamic duo posted a regular season doubles record of 12-3 including a dozen straight wins down the stretch. The Chodur/Renfro pairing then went 4-0 in the conference tourney.
As a freshman in 2025, Renfro was an All-WSC Honorable Mention selection as the team's No. 2 singles player. A key contributor over her two seasons with the Cougars, Renfro posted a singles record of 9-10 through the conference tourney.
COC sophomore Lauren Neal was named All-WSC Honorable Mention for her performance as a No. 4 singles player.
Neal, who was a member of the Cougars' 2022 conference championship team, returned to action in 2026 and brought with her a winning pedigree.
She finished the regular season with an 8-5 singles record after a three-match win streak to close out the year. Neal also won a string of five straight matches from Feb. 12 to March 10.
As a team, Canyons advanced to the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs for the third time in program history. The Cougars' opening-round win over Riverside City College was the first in program history. COC then lost to No. 1 seed L.A. Mission. College in the second round.
