2017 College of the Canyons Cross Country News
Participants will gather each week to run a 3-mile course that begins at Cougar Field and winds through the Valencia campus and surrounding hills, before concluding at Cougar Stadium. All races will begin at 7 p.m.
The women’s squad, which finished as conference runner up, had a total of five honorees, while the men’s team, which placed seventh in conference, had three runners recognized.
Led by the one-two duo of Ellis and Martinez the COC women’s cross country program produced another terrific season in 2017.
COC sophomore Díani Ellis established a new school record with time of 18:32.2 at Woodward Park.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23, with walk up registration available.
The Cougars finished in sixth place on the women's side, while seeing two individual runners qualify for the men's team.
Women's team placed second and the men’s team was seventh at WSC Finals with both squads moving on to compete at CCCAA SoCal Championships on Nov. 3.
The event also allowed for a reunion with former COC runners Jessica Ruiz (CSU Fullerton), Lexi Whitman (CSU Fullerton), Jason Hillquist (CSU Fullerton) and Ashton Garcia (UC Irvine) who all took part in the meet.
COC sophomore Díani Ellis had another stellar day, running to a second place time of 18:58.32 in the field of 210 runners to lead the Cougars.
COC sophomore Díani Ellis ran to a 16th place finish on the 5K course with a team-leading time of 19:13.3.
Led by sophomore Díani Ellis the women’s team finished with 38 points to beat out defending state champion Glendale College.
The Cougars will hit the course beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday at Oxnard College.
