College of the Canyons took a decisive opening set before falling in the next three during a 3-1 loss to No. 5 L.A. Mission College at the Cougar Cage on Friday. Set scores were 19-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
Canyons (2-9) continues to do battle with some of the state's top programs. Tuesday's match vs. LAMC (14-0) was no different. The Cougars have now faced state ranked opponents in five of its last six matches.
COC freshman Katelyn Nelson was tops of the squad with eight kills on 11 attacks. Nelson was also active at the net with two solo blocks and five block assists in the match.
Megan Moreno and Allison Wieckowski both finished with four kills. Madison Andrews and Anna Chiatovich were both marked for three.
Addison DeGard, Morgan Dumlao and Jorgia Horwedel all served up a pair of aces. Dumlao's 15 assists were also a team high. Same for DeGard's 14 digs. Amey Nono was next with 10 digs.
The LAMC attack featured a trio of double-digit kill totals with Madison Perry (15), Tawnie Ohrt (14) and Amya January (11) all reaching that mark.
Up next, the Cougars travel to face No. 15 Moorpark Collee (9-6) in its final non-conference match of the season
